LineUp

The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra is an American orchestra based in Lubbock, Texas, formed in 1946. Led by music director and conductor David Cho, the ensemble is composed of professional musicians from the Lubbock community. They are widely recognized for providing quality symphonic performances and educational experiences across the South Plains region.
Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975), a Russian composer from St. Petersburg, is celebrated for his 15 symphonies and chamber music. His classical style features sharp contrasts, grotesque elements, and deep emotional intensity. Renowned works include Symphony No. 5 and the "Leningrad" Symphony. He navigated a complex relationship with the Soviet regime, establishing a powerful legacy as a 20th-century master.
Sergei Prokofiev, a Russian composer born in 1891, forged a distinctive, often percussive and lyrical style in classical music. He is celebrated for masterpieces like the ballets "Romeo and Juliet" and "Cinderella," the children's tale "Peter and the Wolf," and powerful piano concertos. His unique voice, blending modern harmonies with classical structure, profoundly shaped 20th-century music.
