McKinley Phipps, Jr., better known mononymously as Mac, is an American rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana. He began his music career as a child under the stage name Lil Mac, releasing his debut album The Lyrical Midget at the age of 13. He later signed with Master P's No Limit Records, becoming one of the label's most critically acclaimed artists both as a solo rapper and as a member of the hip-hop supergroup 504 Boyz. His 1998 No Limit debut, Shell Shocked, became his most commercially successful solo album, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard 200. Following a 20-year prison sentence, he was released on parole in 2021 and returned to music with the release of his 2022 album, Son of the City.
