ESG and Scientist

Born in Kingston, Scientist, known for his unique dub style, worked with King Tubby and Errol "Don" Mais in the '80s. He engineered at Channel One and Tuff Gong, battled for music rights, and released new albums into the 21st century.

ESG, a South Bronx band formed by the Scroggins sisters, is known for its lean, lively funk style, influencing post-punk, no wave, rap, and house music. Their popular songs include "UFO" and "Moody," and they opened for A Certain Ratio. With early records on labels like 99 and Factory, ESG became a DJ favorite. Although they faced sampling issues, their impact remains strong, inspiring acts like Luscious Jackson. ESG's music was celebrated with reissues and they continued performing and recording well into the 2010s.
