Washington, D.C.-born R&B singer Ginuwine (Elgin Baylor Lumpkin) rose in the ’90s with Timbaland, scoring a No. 1 R&B hit with “Pony” and a double-platinum debut, Ginuwine...The Bachelor. Later hits include “So Anxious” and “Differences.”
Minneapolis contemporary R&B trio formed as Strate4ward in 1992. Signed to Clive Davis’ Arista, they scored four Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 hits, led by No. 1 “Too Close” and “Wifey.” Their debut Rated Next went multi-platinum.
Shai is a four-man urban contemporary vocal group. Their 1992 debut album ...If I Ever Fall in Love and its number one title track topped the R&B and pop charts, and they have remained a presence on the R&B charts.
Multi-platinum R&B singer-songwriter Lloyd returned from a 5-year hiatus with 2016’s Tru EP and RIAA Platinum title track. His 2007 gold album Street Love debuted No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with hits “You” and “Get It Shawty.”
Born Bobby Wilson in Mississippi and raised in Atlanta, smooth contemporary R&B singer Bobby V (formerly Bobby Valentino) broke out with Mista’s “Blackberry Molasses.” Signed to Ludacris’ DTP; debut topped Billboard R&B and he later hit the Top Ten with Fly on the Wall.
New York R&B singer Case; rose in the ’90s (backed Usher). Def Jam artist behind Case, Personal Conversation, Open Letter; worked with Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Tim & Bob.
Day26 is an R&B vocal group formed on season 4 of MTV’s Making the Band. Winners of the show, they signed to Bad Boy Records under Sean “Puffy” Combs, releasing “Got Me Going” (prod. Mario Winans) and 2008’s Day26.
Houston R&B vocal group H-Town (from Luther Campbell’s camp): “Knockin’ da Boots” #3 Hot 100; platinum Fever for da Flavor; 2 gold albums; collabs Jodeci/Pretty Ricky.
Washington, D.C.-based R&B vocalist J. Holiday (Nahum Grymes) signed to Capitol and broke through with Back of My Lac' (2007). Singles Bed and Suffocate, co-written by the-Dream, topped Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Round 2 followed in 2009.
