Atlanta-based R&B group 112, founded by Michael Keith and mentored by Sean “Puffy” Combs, rose to fame with double Platinum albums "112" and "Room 112." Known for hits like “Cupid” and “Only You” featuring Notorious B.I.G. and Mase, they thrived during a VERZUZ battle against Jagged Edge. With Grammy accolades and a lasting legacy, 112 remains a celebrated name in R&B.
Born in California, Suga Free is known for his unique rap style. He debuted with "Street Gospel," collaborated with Xzibit and Snoop Dogg, and released hits like "Grooveline, Pt. 2."
Freestyle icon Trinere, from Miami, teamed with Pretty Tony, excelled in post-disco club music. Hits like "I'll Be All You Ever Need" topped Billboard's club chart. Known for albums like Trinere (1986), collaborated with Brandon Christopher.
JJ Fad, a rap group from Rialto, CA, rose to fame with their Grammy-nominated hit "Supersonic" in 1988. The all-female trio, backed by DJ Train, were the first female rap group to go platinum. Their song was later sampled by Fergie for "Fergalicious," reigniting their popularity. Touring with original members and DJ Arabian Prince, they credit Eazy-E and N.W.A. for their success and were honored with a street name in Rialto.
Naughty by Nature, formed in East Orange, NJ, in 1986, is known for hits like "O.P.P." and "Hip Hop Hooray." Discovered by Queen Latifah, they balanced pop success with street cred. Their 1993 album hit the Top Five, and they won a Grammy with "Poverty's Paradise." Collaborated with Zhané and Aaliyah, while members pursued acting and production careers.
Brooklyn-based Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, feat. Full Force members Hughes & Moseley, dominated mid-'80s dance-pop/R&B. Hits include "I Wonder if I Take You Home." Peaked in the '80s, disbanded in 1991.
Color Me Badd, formed in 1985 in Oklahoma City, delivered hits like "I Wanna Sex You Up," achieving two Grammy nods, multiple awards, and over 12 million records sold. The band's music featured in movies and TV shows like "New Jack City" and "Glee." Originally with four members, now Mark Calderon leads, touring with '90s icons like Salt N Pepa.
