The Grammy-nominated Oregon Symphony, established in 1896, is the oldest orchestra on the West Coast. Renowned for its adventurous programming, it blends classical music with diverse genres like jazz, indie, and hip hop. The Symphony is celebrated for innovative community engagement and collaborations with artists such as The Decemberists, esperanza spalding, and Rick Ross. It is recognized as an Oregon 'History Maker'.
Felix Mendelssohn, a German Romantic composer born in Hamburg, was a child prodigy known for his lyrical melodies and elegant orchestration. He blended Classical forms with Romantic expression, creating popular works like the "Wedding March," Violin Concerto, and Italian Symphony. Mendelssohn also revived Bach's music and founded the Leipzig Conservatory.
Originating in Birmingham in 1921, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra is the state's only full-time professional orchestra. Renowned for classical, pop, and diverse genre performances, it received the ASCAP John S. Edwards Award for new American music. The ASO enriches communities through statewide outreach, education, and collaborations.
