Orion Sun announces her highly anticipated new self-titled album "Orion," which is slated for release on September 20th via Mom + Pop. In celebration, she shares the new single from the project "Mary Jane" accompanied by a moving visual.
The album serves as Orion's first offering following a two-year hiatus, resulting in a deeply palpable body of work that will undeniably establish her as a major force in the music industry and one of today's most essential artists. The Los Angeles-based Orion has quickly cemented herself as one of music’s essential and most groundbreaking artists today through an impressive catalog that has become recognized as both critically acclaimed and commercially successful with over 381 million streams globally. Unapologetically complex, her music defies the confines of genres that profoundly speaks to her generation with an undeniable ability to thrill.
A luminous self-taught producer and songwriter, her work draws inspiration from the greats that shaped her artistry such as Billie Holiday, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, John P. Kee, Fred Hammond, Lauryn Hill, and others that remain central to her art.
Orion's most recent body of work, the "Getaway EP," housed a collection of songs that chronicled her own journey of self-discovery and healing and arrived to large global critical acclaim. It features production by Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend, HAIM), Nascent (SZA, Brent Faiyaz), and Rodaidh McDonald (Adele, Kanye West, Sampha, The xx). Her previous album, "Hold Space For Me," amassed over 80 million global streams and solidified Orion as an artist to watch with her transformative, intimate art.
Her expansive work has been lauded by NPR, ELLE, Harpers Bazaar, Pitchfork, i-D, Fader, Billboard, BBC Radio, NYLON, KCRW, Hypebeast, COLORS, and many more. Orion is now a two-time 2021 Libera Awards Nominee for Breakthrough Artist/Release and Best R&B Record.
