Messiah (HWV 56) is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens. First performed in Dublin on April 13, 1742, it reflects on the Christian narrative of Jesus Christ from birth and passion to resurrection and glorification. It has since become one of the best-known, most frequently performed, and enduring choral works in Western classical music.
