Édith Giovanna Gassion, known professionally as Édith Piaf and nicknamed "The Little Sparrow," was a legendary French singer, lyricist, and actress who became a global cultural icon. Born into poverty in Paris in 1915, she began her career singing on street corners before being discovered in 1935 by cabaret owner Louis Leplée. Widely regarded as France's greatest popular singer, her highly emotional, raw, and powerful vocal style defined the classic French chanson and torch ballad genres. Her iconic discography includes international masterpieces such as "La Vie en rose," "Non, je ne regrette rien," and "Hymne à l'amour," which reflected a tumultuous life heavily marked by personal tragedies, addictions, and health struggles until her death in 1963.
