Born in Chapel Hill, N.C., Loudon Wainwright III rose to fame with 1972 Top 20 hit “Dead Skunk.” A singer-songwriter with 27 albums, he won a 2009 Grammy for High Wide & Handsome and has acted in films, TV, and Broadway.

PineCone

PineCone, the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, originated in Raleigh, NC, in 1984. Founded by Wayne and Margaret Martin, Ron Raxter, and Beverly Young, it preserves, presents, and promotes traditional folk music and dance, including bluegrass and old-time. Known for its concert series, jams, workshops, youth programs, and the Raleigh Wide Open festival, PineCone celebrates roots music.
