Poetry Slam originated in 1980s Chicago, founded by Marc Smith, to make poetry accessible. It is a competitive spoken word art form blending poetry, theater, and storytelling, judged by the audience. Known for its dynamic performances and engaging exploration of social themes and personal experiences, it features national and international competitions.
