Heather Small joined Hot House in the late 80s, then rose to fame with M People hits Moving on Up, One Night in Heaven and Search for the Hero. M People won Brit Awards and the Mercury Prize for Elegant Slumming. She later released solo albums Proud and Close to a Miracle.
Formed in 1973 in South London by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, Squeeze are known for witty kitchen-sink lyricism and new-wave guitar pop. Cool For Cats (1979) featured Up The Junction; Tempted included Paul Carrack.
Nik Kershaw hit the UK pop scene in 1984 with singles “Wouldn’t It Be Good”, “The Riddle” and “I Won’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”, spending 62 weeks on the UK Singles Chart (1984–85) and playing Live Aid. He wrote Chesney Hawkes’ “The One and Only” and collaborated with Elton John, Sia, Gary Barlow and Bonnie Tyler.
Altered Images, led by iconic frontwoman Clare Grogan, are new wave stars who won NME’s Best New Act and scored 1980s Top 10 hits including Happy Birthday, I Could Be Happy and Don’t Talk To Me About Love. Collaborators include Stephen Lironi and Bernard Butler.
Go West is a British pop duo formed in 1982 by vocalist Peter Cox and guitarist/keyboards Richard Drummie. Their 1985 debut album spawned hits "We Close Our Eyes" and "Call Me" and won the 1986 BRIT for Best British Newcomer.
UK singer-songwriter Gabrielle scored a 1999 #1 album, Rise (4x Platinum); her Dreams Can Come True, Greatest Hits also went 4x Platinum. Six albums hit the Top 10, incl. 2018’s Under My Skin. She won 2 BRITs, 2 MOBOs and an Ivor Novello.
Liverpool's The Christians emerged in 1985, blending soulful pop and sophisti-pop with socially conscious lyrics and harmonious vocals. Their debut album sold over a million copies, and "Colour" hit UK number one. Known for hits like "Forgotten Town," "Ideal World," "Harvest for the World," and "Words," they also contributed to charity singles.
