"Rhapsody in Blue," composed by George Gershwin in 1924, is an iconic American musical composition. Originating in New York City, it masterfully blends classical music with jazz and blues, creating a distinctly American, modernist style. Known for its memorable melodies and the famous opening clarinet glissando, it established Gershwin as an eminent composer. Commissioned by Paul Whiteman and orchestrated by Ferde Grofé, this work is celebrated for defining the Jazz Age.
Founded in 1922 by George Eastman, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has performed at Carnegie Hall, recorded for labels like Vox and Harmonia Mundi, and won a Grammy Award for the 2019 release American Rapture. Led by music directors including Eugene Goossens, José Iturbi, Erich Leinsdorf, David Zinman, and Christopher Seaman, the orchestra serves over 350,000 patrons annually.
Makoto Ozone is a Japanese jazz and classical pianist and composer born in Kobe, Japan. He is globally renowned for blending jazz and classical styles, performing with major orchestras, and leading his big band No Name Horses.
