Born in Lvov, Poland, Emanuel Ax is a celebrated pianist known for his classical repertoire and collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma. He won the Arthur Rubinstein Competition in 1974 and the Avery Fisher Prize in 1979. Ax's recordings have earned him multiple Grammy Awards, and he frequently performs with renowned orchestras and at prestigious festivals like Ravinia and Tanglewood. He has recorded for the Sony Classical label and teaches at Juilliard.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. A child prodigy, he created over 600 works across symphonies, operas, and concertos. His music is celebrated for its clarity, balance, and melodic beauty, profoundly influencing Western music and remaining widely performed today.
Franz Joseph Haydn, born in Rohrau, Austria, was a pivotal Classical composer. Known as the "Father of the Symphony" and "Father of the String Quartet," his prolific output includes 104 symphonies and 68 string quartets. His innovative style, marked by wit and humor, shaped instrumental music. Notable works include the "London" symphonies and oratorios like "The Creation." He influenced Mozart and taught Beethoven.
Xian Zhang, a Chinese-American conductor born in Dandong, China, is renowned for her dynamic classical music interpretations. She serves as Music Director for the New Jersey Symphony and Seattle Symphony. Zhang was the first woman to lead a major Italian symphony orchestra and hold a titled role with a BBC orchestra. Her Grammy-winning album "Letters for the Future" highlights her collaborations. She champions Chinese composers.
The Seattle Symphony, founded in 1903, is an internationally acclaimed classical orchestra based in Seattle.
