Phoenix-based MC Magic, born Marco Cardenas in Nogales, Mexico, blends R&B-style rap in English & Spanish, hits like "Down for Yours." Founded Nastyboy Records, led NB Ridaz. Known for talk box sound, won Billboard charts, launched beauty line & discovered talent Jay Roxxx.
Zapp, a 1980s funk band from Hamilton, OH, gained fame with their electro pop and vocoder styles. Known for hits like "More Bounce to the Ounce" and collaborations with Bootsy Collins. Led by Roger Troutman, their sound was influenced by the Ohio Players and Parliament. Their popular track "I Want to Be Your Man" topped R&B charts, and collaboration with Dr. Dre & 2Pac on "California Love" stood out. Tragedy struck when Roger was killed by his brother, Larry, in 1999.
Evelyn "Champagne" King, born in Philadelphia, is known for '70s and '80s dance classics like "Shame," "I'm in Love," and "Love Come Down." Her versatile pop-R&B style, shaped with producers like T. Life and Kashif, gained her multiple awards and three gold-certified albums. Key collaborations include Morrie Brown and Leon Sylvers III. King remains impactful, performing and charting across decades.
Rose Royce, formed in Los Angeles by high school graduates Copeland and Garner, gained fame with hits like "Car Wash" from their debut album turned movie soundtrack. Known for collaborating with Motown's Whitfield and producing top ten singles like "I Wanna Get Next to You." Popular in England.
