Formed in Athens, Georgia in 1976, the B-52s were among the first American new wave acts to break mainstream. Their quirky, dance-friendly sound broke through with Rock Lobster and peaked with the multi-platinum Cosmic Thing and hit Love Shack.

DEVO

Devo are an Akron, Ohio new wave band formed in 1973 around their “de-evolution” concept. Known for stylized visuals and robotic rhythms, they broke big with 1980’s Freedom of Choice and the gold-selling MTV hit “Whip It.”

Lene Lovich

9 concerts

Detroit-born new wave singer Lene Lovich mixed art-pop quirks with hooky pop. Signed to Stiff Records, she scored a UK Top 10 hit with Lucky Number (1979) and released Stateless and Flex. Later issued Shadows and Dust (2005).
