The Beat Farmers, a band from San Diego, mixed roots rock, country-rock, blues, and rock & roll. Known for their lively shows and humor, they gained fame with their debut album "Tales of the New West" in 1985. Formed in 1983 by Dan McLain, aka Country Dick Montana, they collaborated with acts like Los Lobos and X. The band released several albums, including "Van Go" and "The Pursuit of Happiness," and toured widely until Montana's sudden death in 1995. Post-breakup, members formed the Farmers, releasing music that continued the Beat Farmers' legacy.
