Martin Brammer and Dave Brewis, from County Durham, formed the Kane Gang with Paul Woods in 1982, blending 60s/70s soul, funk, and R&B. Known for hits like "Closest Thing To Heaven" and "Respect Yourself," they reached the UK Top 20 and US dance chart. Collaborations included P.P. Arnold and Sam Brown. After Woods departed in 1991, Brammer became a successful songwriter for Tina Turner, Beverley Knight, and others.
