Sam Bush, born in Bowling Green, KY, is a pivotal figure in progressive bluegrass, known for his masterful mandolin and fiddle skills. Founder of the New Grass Revival, he blended bluegrass with rock, jazz, and reggae. Bush's collaborations include working with Emmylou Harris and co-leading the bluegrass supergroup Strength in Numbers. He earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association and was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. Popular albums include King of My World and Storyman. Dubbed the "Father of Newgrass," he's honored in his hometown.
Leftover Salmon, formed in 1989 in Boulder, are jamgrass pioneers known for blending bluegrass, rock, and Cajun styles. They gained fame with '90s albums like Euphoria, toured extensively, and collaborated with Steve Berlin. After a hiatus, they reemerged with albums like 2012's Aquatic Hitchhiker. The band is celebrated for its dynamic shows and was pivotal in the jam band scene.
Mountain Grass Unit, from Birmingham, Alabama, is a dynamic bluegrass quartet blending tradition with jazz, funk, and rock. Known for their inventive covers and originals, their debut EP "Runnin’ From Trouble," produced by Mike Harris, features hit single "Hey Mama." They’ve captivated audiences at Renewal and DelFest, drawing inspiration from legends like Tony Rice.
