The Commodores, formed at Alabama's Tuskegee Institute, are famous for R&B hits like "Easy" and "Brickhouse." Collaborating with Lionel Richie, they achieved seven No. 1 hits and numerous Top Tens. Their Grammy-winning "Nightshift" honored Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson. Originally with Motown, they later joined Polydor.
The Spinners, formed in Detroit in 1954, are iconic in R&B and Philadelphia Soul, known for hits like "I'll Be Around" and "The Rubberband Man." They've earned six Grammy nods, a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, and widespread acclaim. Working with producer Thom Bell, they became Philly Soul pioneers and remain timelessly influential.
Sister Sledge, from North Philadelphia, rose to fame with the disco anthem "We Are Family" (1979), working with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. Known for their versatile style, they excelled in pop-R&B, Philly soul, funk, and disco. Their notable hits include "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "Lost in Music." They topped the UK charts with "Frankie" (1985) and were Grammy-nominated. Sister Sledge collaborated with Narada Michael Walden and George Duke, remaining active across decades while occasionally recording new music.
