The Go-Go's, from the California punk scene, gained fame as a pioneering all-female band in the '80s new wave era with hits like "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed." Formed in 1978, their debut album, *Beauty and the Beat*, was a massive success. They toured with Madness, had members like Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, and Charlotte Caffey, and faced ups and downs before breaking up in 1985 and reuniting in the '90s. Their music foreshadowed future female rockers.
