Formed in Colchester, England, Modern English rose from post-punk to new wave. Signed to 4AD after self-releasing a first single on Limp Records, they gained attention from BBC DJ John Peel. Their 1982 album After the Snow includes “I Melt With You.”

Formed on Detroit’s east side in 1977, power pop band the Romantics are best known for “That’s What I Like About You.” Their gold album In Heat (1983) spawned Top Ten hits “Talking in Your Sleep” and “One in a Million.”

The Plimsouls

Formed in Los Angeles in 1978, the Plimsouls blended rootsy guitar rock with a punk edge. Led by singer/songwriter Peter Case, they’re known for power pop classics "A Million Miles Away" (Valley Girl), "Zero Hour" and "Hush, Hush."
