Fort Worth alt-rock band Toadies formed in 1989. Known for platinum debut Rubberneck and radio staple “Possum Kingdom,” they blend Southern-tinged grunge with dark storytelling. Their album The Charmer was recorded live to tape with producer Steve Albini.

The Band Of Heathens

The Band of Heathens formed in Austin in 2005, blending country, rock, and soul with sharp songwriting. They broke through in 2009; core songwriters Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist remain. Their 2011 song Hurricane went gold, then platinum.

The Polyphonic Spree

Dallas choir-rock collective led by Tim DeLaughter (ex-Tripping Daisy), famed for robed 23-piece shows and “Light & Day”; opened for Bowie, Nobel Peace Prize Concert.
