Detroit’s power pop band the Romantics rose in the late ’70s with hits like “Talking in Your Sleep.” Known for high-energy sound, retro style, and MTV favorites like “What I Like About You.”
A Flock of Seagulls, an electro-pop band from Liverpool, gained US fame with the 1982 hit "I Ran (So Far Away)." Known for futurist pop and Mike Score's unique hairstyle, they later reunited in 2003.
Formed in London in 1980 by Malcolm McLaren, Bow Wow Wow, featuring Annabella Lwin, is known for hits like "I Want Candy." Their new wave style blends punk, pop, and African rhythms. The band's two albums secured their pop history, with highlights including "Go Wild in the Country." They influenced music piracy culture with the cassette single "C·30 C·60 C·90 Go!" and worked with notable figures like Boy George. Disbanding in 1983, the band reunited for tours, impacting the music scene with their lively performances and distinctive style.
British synth-pop pioneer Thomas Dolby is known for hits like "She Blinded Me with Science." A synth wizard, he worked with Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, and more.
Men Without Hats, led by Ivan and Colin Doroschuk, are new wave electro-pop pioneers known for hits like "The Safety Dance" and "Pop Goes The World," both in the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. They've toured globally with '80s royalty, blending vintage synth sounds with modern tech.
Tommy Tutone, led by Tommy Heath and Jim Keller, rose to fame with the 1981 hit "867-5309/Jenny," reaching No. 4 and earning gold status. Despite their early success, they disbanded after 1983's *National Emotion*. Heath revived the name in 1994 with *Nervous Love* and continued releases like *Tutone.rtf* in 1998.
