Originating from the UK, techno-pop trio Heaven 17, spun from Human League, are known for hits like "Temptation." They collaborated with artists like Tina Turner. Awards and tours mark their success.
Born in the 1980s, Haircut One Hundred blended sophisticated pop and new wave, famous for "Love Plus One" and album "Pelican West." Celebrated for their catchy sax solos and sunny vocals, despite a brief career, they left a lasting impact and earned platinum status.
Jamaican reggae band Black Uhuru, formed in 1972, first reggae Grammy winners for 1983's "Anthem." Known for hits like "I Love King Selassie," led by Derrick Simpson. Frequent lineup changes, critical acclaim in the '90s, and celebrated 50th anniversary with "New Day" in 2022.
Formed in Detroit, 1977, The Romantics, known for "That's What I Like About You," blended power pop with a high-energy style. Achieved gold with "In Heat" album, featuring hits like "Talking in Your Sleep." Known for energetic live shows and vintage style.
Men Without Hats, new wave pioneers, led by the Doroschuks & joined by Sho Murray & Sahara Sloan, continue their synth-pop legacy. Known for "The Safety Dance" & global tours, they've recently had hits inducted into the Canadian Songwriter's Hall of Fame.
Musical Youth, formed in Birmingham by the Waite family, hit it big with "Pass the Dutiction" in 1982. Known for merging ska and reggae, their top track sold over 4M copies. Other songs include "Unconditional Love" with Donna Summer. Despite early success, the band split in 1985, briefly reuniting before Patrick Waite's death ended hopes of a comeback.
