Amphitheatre of Pompeii
The Amphitheatre of Pompeii, an approximately 20,000-capacity ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompei, Italy, was constructed around 70 BC, making it one of the oldest surviving stone amphitheatres in the Roman world. This remarkably preserved elliptical arena, buried by Vesuvius in 79 AD, originally hosted gladiatorial contests and public spectacles.
