Los Angeles-born R&B singer and actor from Watts, Tyrese Darnell Gibson debuted with Tyrese (1998), featuring Top 40 hits “Nobody Else” and Grammy-nominated “Sweet Lady.” He topped the Billboard 200 with Black Rose (2015) and collaborated with Tank and Ginuwine as TGT.
Petersburg, Virginia R&B singer, songwriter and producer Trey Songz broke out with I Gotta Make It (2005). He scored seven Top 20 Billboard 200 albums, including No. 1 Chapter V and Trigga, plus Grammy nominations for "Can't Help But Wait" and "Heart Attack."
Atlanta R&B group 112, founded by Michael Keith and groomed by Sean “Puffy” Combs. Their 1996 debut 112 went double platinum with hits “Cupid” and “Only You” featuring Notorious B.I.G and Mase; Room 112 also went double platinum.
Houston R&B vocal group H-Town (from Luther Campbell’s camp): “Knockin’ da Boots” #3 Hot 100; platinum Fever for da Flavor; 2 gold albums; collabs Jodeci/Pretty Ricky.
Washington, D.C.-based R&B vocalist J. Holiday (Nahum Grymes) signed to Capitol and broke through with Back of My Lac' (2007). Singles Bed and Suffocate, co-written by the-Dream, topped Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Round 2 followed in 2009.
