War, formed in Compton, blended funk with soul, Latin, jazz, and rock, hitting it big with "Spill the Wine," "The Cisco Kid," and "Low Rider." They collaborated with Eric Burdon and had multi-million-selling albums like "The World Is a Ghetto." Known for extended jams and group harmony, this diverse ensemble had numerous hits in the '70s, earning acclaim and influence, especially in hip-hop.
