Wynton Marsalis, born in New Orleans, is a renowned trumpeter, bandleader, and jazz advocate. As Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, he's known for his work with The Jazz Messengers and his role in rekindling global jazz interest. Marsalis has performed over 5,000 concerts globally and earned accolades, including being dubbed the "Pied Piper" of jazz.
Bronx native Samara Joy, immersed in classic R&B and church gospel, won the 2019 Sarah Vaughan Jazz Vocal Competition. Her jazz journey includes breakthrough LPs "Linger Awhile" and "Portrait," showcasing lyricist talent with music by Mingus and Sun Ra. Co-produced with Grammy-winner Brian Lynch, she's emerging as a standout jazz vocalist.
Esperanza Spalding, born in Portland, is a Grammy-winning jazz bassist and singer known for her eclectic style, blending jazz, R&B, and art rock. Prodigy and Berklee's youngest faculty member, she rose to fame with albums like Esperanza and Chamber Music Society. Collaborations include Fred Hersch, Janelle Monáe, and Milton Nascimento.
Born in Georgia, Wright's soulful alto and Southern roots shape her jazz-infused style. Known for "Salt," her 2003 debut topping charts, she continued with hits like "Lean In," featuring on Obama's playlist. Her work includes collaborations with Verve and Universal Music Group. In 2022, she founded Blues & Greens Records, releasing a live Berlin album.
