The Drive Adelaide Reviews

We - group of four, attended the Sir Tom Jones concert @ The Drive recently. We had a fabulous experience - food and bar range/service was super friendly, yummy and reasonably priced; the seats were superb - comfy and central; the venue was presented in excellent condition and the star attraction was outstanding. This was the first concert we have attended in the revamped The Drive, wow what a venue, we can’t wait for the next concert that takes our fancy, we will be lining up as soon as tix are released.

THE DRIVE: MUSIC VENUE Sights: 8/10 Sounds: 5/10 Atmosphere: 6/10 Food/beverage: 2/10 Average: 22/40 (55% approval rating) •Sound is harsh as acoustics are for sport not music. Earplug’s extremely recommended- they are free upon entry - alternatively bring your own. You will need them to cancel out some of the harsher tones. The stage sound mix is an absolutely crucial part of the show, however as The Drive was not built for musicians the acoustics are quite harsh and the sound can often be muffled or difficult to distinguish between instruments. It would probably be great for a shoegaze band he’ll bent on creating a wall of sound. If you’ve ever watched the tennis and heard the shoe squeak- imagine that; 1000 times more hectic. Food/beverage lines are heinously long: Bar lines are extremely lengthy, if you want a beer- you’ll be waiting a minimum of 40 minutes! PROS: Because The Drive is a smaller venue - the artists are closer regardless of where you sit (assuming you’re on the South or North Stands) or in General Admission. Male toilet access was easy, there were long lines for female / disabled toilet access. Take care, be happy big bands come to Adelaide- it’s just unfortunate they have to play in a litter box full of the sound of sharp glass being put through a blender (bad acoustics), fluctuations in temperatures (it’s exposed to some elements) and long beer/food lines. BB peace.

Great Venue - Terrible bar service! We were told you can’t take cans into the venue - no worries there were cups to fill the drinks into. We bought 4 drinks, and as I was paying my partner was pouring them into the cups to the side. We were told to move because they wanted to keep serving. Hang on a minute, your second person getting the drinks should he opening them and pouring into the cups as they go. This would’ve saved a lot of time and by the time payment was finished we’d have been ready to go. Terribly organised.

Went here for QOTSA. Loved the venue - my only annoyance is that they wouldn’t share the set times of the bands because ‘it’s subject to change’ which I understand but queens were able to post that information on their Facebook which really should have gotten that info from the staff. The bar could’ve been better managed at the start but apart from that really enjoyed the show

Could be a good venue if they adequately manned the bars. Went to a gig here and if you wanted anything other than water you'd spend more time lining up than seeing the band. Know your audience...
