Alsbach Castle Reviews

Great castle to visit with kids. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The food available was quite good. There are rabbits in a fenced off area. You can purchase food for them as well. Chickens and peacocks roam free throughout the grounds.

Small Castle, but from around the 1700s. You can hike to this castle from town, or you can park your car in a very small parking lot adjacent to the castle. There is also a small restaurant where you can get small plates and beers as well once you are inside. Great little place to visit, doesn't take very long to see everything. Recommend checking the spice out if you are in the area.

A historical palace in ruins but still in good shape to have first hand experience! This 13th century masterpiece is now well maintained and open for the public visits and for the private events. By being on a small hill, about 300m, and on the top of watch tower, one can have a nice view of the surroundings. There’s a wine and beer garden inside the site. Driving up the hill needs caution. Though less car parking places are at the site, it’s still enough if it’s not a busy day / time. Easily approachable by road.

What a sweet little castle! The ruin is actually in great shape, almost as though it has been restored (it was an impromptu visit for us and we didn’t have time to do much research. You literally can pull up to the parking lot at the castle (or park next to the very nearby playground and walk a few extra steps), and walk in through the entrance. You can either go towards the restaurant or make a left or right and walk through the outer grounds of the castle through gardens and a rabbit keep (which was the highlight of my kids day). The gardens are quaint and charming and actually maintained, if they’re a bit overgrown. In the center of the castle there is a small tower you can climb with a coin “donation” box. The staircase up was VERY dark at one point (we had to use our phone flashlights just to see the steps at all; there were lights but they weren’t all working). There was also a restaurant that was closed when we were there but the seating was welcoming and within the walls of the castle, which I always love. It took us less than an hour to explore everything at a slow pace, easily done with my 3 kids ages 5,3,1.5 years. Definitely check out the playground right down the road if you have kids!

Visited for an event Winter Matchen auf Schloss Alsbach. Castle was well preserved. A new large playground under construction just outside looks very promising. Great area for hiking.
