Alter Wartesaal Restaurant Concerts

I was very happy to be able to stop here at a rather late hour, but on time for the last round. The reception by the barman (and an apparently local little mouse) was very friendly. The menu is very extensive and includes perfectly prepared non-alcoholic cocktails served with savoury popcorn. I also liked the reusable straws. I was impressed by the quality, location and friendliness of the service - I would happily return.

We are dinner here on Thursday eve, the setting is pretty cool, certainly an interesting and upmarket looking surrounding. It was extremely quiet on the night we visited but the atmosphere was good. We both chose the three course fixed menu at €69 a head which seemed best value - our starters where pretty good however I orders the herring and nowhere did the menu stage that it was cubed pieces of herring covered in a creamy sauce, I was expecting to have the fish as is but it’s probably a German style I was not accustomed to with For my main course I had the Schnitzel and it’s was overwhelmingly covered in salt, some I could remove but lots in the batter. My wife had the cod which was well cooked but the spinach it came with was again full of salt and what must have been 10 cloves of garlic, not nice Deserts were Ok - standard fare really. We had an excellent bottle of wine but watch the table water if you have some, we were brought another bottle after having said no and it was added to the bill (and removed to be fair but shouldn’t have been brought ). Overall it was a €200 visit and it didn’t feel like anything special. Service was pretty good and the ambiance is nice but there are many more places to choose in Cologne that offered much better food at a fraction of the cost.

Great service. I went here to drink while waiting for my train. The waitress proposed to put my luggage in the storage space. I can fully enjoy my German beer. And what's nice is that prices are affordable. The place is very nice and not too loud

Omen nomen. Unbelievable waiting time for the dinner. Servis is horrible and offensive. Big problem to have something without gluten. Really do not recommend sorry for that.

Very disappoiting. Wartesaal presents itself as a somehwat chic and culinary restaurant with class. But they are definitely not. The glasses and cutlery were unpolished and full of water stains. The herring salad hardly has any hering it (but they charge you 16 euros anyway). To compensate we got an extra salad at the main course consiting of a few leaves of lettuce with only dressing. They didn't ask how the steak should be prepared and just served it English. We changed the standard side dish and the waiter told we would then only pay a small amount extra. But they charged the full price, even though we didn't even get the standard side dish. Their excuse was that the waiter was an intern. They did not offer to pay the amount back. This is truly one the worst restaurants we've been to in a long time.
