Römertorbogen Reviews

Rather insignificant landmark. Without the knowledge that this was apparently an old Roman gate, I probably wouldn’t have looked twice. As a matter of fact, I have walked past it many times without noticing it.

The Roman North Gate, also known as the "Archiwka," is a well-preserved ancient Roman structure located in the city of Cologne, Germany. It is believed to have been built around 50 AD, making it over 2000 years old. Despite its age, the structure is in relatively good condition and is a popular tourist attraction in the city. The Roman North Gate is not a particularly large or impressive structure, and some visitors may find it underwhelming compared to other ancient sites they have visited. However, the gate's historical significance and the fact that it is one of the few remaining ancient Roman structures in the city make it worth a visit for those interested in history and archaeology. The cathedral located beside the Roman North Gate is a much more impressive and well-known attraction. It is a massive Gothic cathedral that has been a major landmark in the city for centuries. Overall, while the Roman North Gate may not be the main attraction in Cologne, it is still worth a visit for those interested in ancient history and archaeology. The nearby cathedral is a must-see for anyone visiting the city, and its beauty and grandeur are sure to impress even the most seasoned travelers.

It was an unexpected find when visiting the cathedral. It is very close to it. I was not aware of it until I visited the area. It is neat to see pieces of history. The ruins are very well maintained. It was a pleasant surprise. Not sure if a special trip to see the gate would be worth it, but it is definitely worth walking up to it if visiting the area already. It is a historical marker.

Part of old Roman Cologne. All that's left is the stone frame of a gateway the size of a doorway. The gate is in the Cathedral area, but otherwise don't go out the way to visit. There's not much to see.

A reminder that the Romans were here! Between the Cathedral and the tourist information office (a few metres from both). OK, a secondary attraction, but given everyone goes to the Cathedral ...
