Lutherkirche Reviews

Great Sermon and Warm Experience.

23.04.2024

Great building, but a concert in winter is not possible, freezing cold despite warm clothing, two Dixi toilets without lights for 1000 people, a half-open entrance to get in, with a corresponding endless queue, doors flung open (suddenly on both sides), barely the artist is there End spoke, just disrespectful... What happens in an emergency when there is only one open door, can the good Lord help? It was especially unreasonable for old people to use the icy steps of the stairs; access from the other side was only known to insiders, who then pushed into the queue from the side. There really isn't a heated church in Görlitz for such an event It's admirable that the artists gave everything and persevered. So the ticket they purchased, which no one checked, was at least worth the price. The Görlitz organizers still have a lot to learn, you won't see me in this facility again.

As early as 1885, Superintendent Sigmund Schulze sent a request to the city magistrate for the transfer of building land in the then Dresdner Platz (today's Lutherplatz) for the construction of a new church. Only 13 years later, the foundation stone was laid on November 10, 1898. Martin Luther was held under the leadership of Superintendent Schoenwelder. The opening ceremony could be celebrated already on July 6, 1900. It was inaugurated on May 6, 1901 as the first Protestant church building after the Reformation in Herlitza. In addition to representatives of the government and the Wrocław Consistory, Mayor Paul Buchtemann Johannes Heine and City Councilor Bethe participated. Construction according to the plans of architects Arno Eugen Fritsche and Adolf Cornehls cost 362,718 Marks, about 1.4 million bricks were used. The church building survived two world wars without any significant damage, but since the 1950s, structural damage has increased, necessitating restoration. Thanks to the broad support of the Evangelical Church in the Federal Republic, on October 25, 1976, the renovation of the Luther Church began. The work was completed after about four years, and finally the grand opening took place on May 3, 1981. Starting from the mid-2000s, a large-scale repair of the brickwork was also carried out with the assistance of the German Foundation for the Protection of Monuments.
