Pauluskirche Reviews

The ev. Pauluskirche in the center of the city of Hamm is the historic landmark of the Lippe city. Thus, the Paul Church is considered the oldest monumental building in the city, which can look back in its earlier part on a more than 700-year-old past. The church shapes the cityscape far into the region. However, repeated fires in the Middle Ages and even in the 18th Century have significantly altered or destroyed the building fabric until today. Thus, the new spire, which was built in 1961/62 in no way corresponds to its historical origin. With its tower height of 79.30 m, however, it is considered one of the most beautiful tower solutions in Westphalia today. In essence, the building can be traced back to a church that was built soon after the founding of the city by Count Adolf von der Mark on Ash Wednesday in 1226. In the first half of the 14th century, the construction of the tower and the five-nave nave with its aisles are dated. Striking for their architecture is the perfect wall resolution of the central nave, so that there is no more wall mass between the buttresses. The high two-part windows are covered inside and outside with round bars, which stand on pedestals with dish-like flat bases and pass without capitals in pointed arches. The impression of the interior is essentially determined by the powerful round pillars that divide the hall space of the nave into its three ships. Five pairs of pillars with simple, grooved fighters divide the space into five transverse rectangular central nave bays and almost square aisle bays. The western pair of pillars is particularly solid, resting on it the eastern part of the mighty tower

Beautiful church. Large square where the animal fountain is located, the weekly market and the fair take place.
