Salmen Reviews

Unfortunately the Salmen is closed on Mondays and Wednesdays, we were only able to visit from the outside, where in 1847 the Friends of the Constitution summarized the first democratic program in Germany in 13 theses. The revolution of 1848 was thwarted by the authorities, but the idea remained and we enjoy the fruits of our democracy today. After being used as an inn, the synagogue was here from 1875 to 1938. After the Jewish community was forced to sell it to Offenburg, the Salmen is now a place of documentation and remembrance and a cultural monument. An advertising column in front describes the eventful history, and a wall picture frieze can be seen in the side street.

The highlight of the exhibition is a table with a fictional family meal scene. At first I was shocked when it talked about Germans as so-called potatoes, many fellow citizens with a migration background are not allowed to vote and are discriminated against in everything anyway. But then I realized that this must be a parody. So that's what it must feel like to sit at a table with Green voters. Simply brilliantly parodied! A sign says “Sinti:zze und Rom:nja”. It's also brilliant how politically correct gendering is taken to the extreme here.

The film is very exciting and touching and also informative about everything that happened in this historic building in the past. The rest of the exhibition is highly recommended as it provides a lot of food for thought. I can only warmly recommend it 👏

One of the best museums in Offenburg, here you can experience history up close! In addition, regular new activities, guided tours, etc. always bring a breath of fresh air into the house, I really enjoy being a guest there

You dive back in time in no time. Before the visit I had no contact with the Jewish faith. Very touching.
