Peterskirche Kleinglattbach Reviews

Sweet little, romantic church. The blue paint inside is simply unique. A real little feel-good church even for an atheist. I rarely go in voluntarily anywhere else! Hopefully it will stay with us for a long time :)

Very historic and well-preserved church. However, church services only take place here on certain days. Now to the history (source: German Foundation for Monument Protection): The medieval town center around the church can still be seen today. St. Peter's is a Romanesque building that was built in the 12th and 13th centuries on the site of a previous building. This previous building probably dates from the 9th or 10th century. The choir church was rebuilt twice in the following centuries. It was expanded and changed in both 1490 and 1667. For example, the tower was given a half-timbered floor and the rib-vaulted ceiling in the hall was given a Baroque design. St. Peter was used as a village church until 1959. The parish then moved to a new church on the outskirts of town. Since then it has only been used sporadically for church services. Instead, exhibitions, concerts and lectures always take place here. The building also houses the municipal museum.
