St.-Nikolai-Kirche Reviews

Wittmunder ❤️

The St. Nikolai Church in Wittmund is close to the pedestrian zone. Unfortunately the church was locked so it was not possible to visit it. Too bad. In general, the city center of Wittmund doesn't have much to offer in terms of tourism.

The building itself is a typical church. The benches are arranged somewhat specifically. Big praise to the pastor, who held the mass very well and relaxed. No comparison to the Catholic blah blah.

Very beautiful church, the service I attended as part of a baptism was exceptionally close to current events and perfectly relaxed by the accompaniment of the Crosswind group. The priest also conducted the service with a pleasant relaxed manner and thereby created a very nice atmosphere.

Faith: as anchor, as comforter, as savior! What connects me to a church is our mother's deep faith, although she was baptized as a Catholic. Our mother was 12 years old when they were displaced from their homeland and carried her younger brother - who had polio and could not walk - thousands of kilometers on her back; Our grandmother (heavily pregnant and about to give birth) carried her youngest daughter in front of her, sitting on her stomach. Only constant dialogue with God (prayer) helped her to survive the time and to some extent overcome the terrible chaos of war. They were on the move from May 10, 1945 to October 6, 1945, and finally arrived in Ardorf on our mother's 13th birthday. However, many years later, when my brother and I were born, the Catholic Church did not want to entrust us to God - as they reported - and did not want to baptize us! Out of deep reverence for God and love for us, our mother was baptized as a Protestant so that we could also be baptized. A big step, because Luther was considered a heretic, agitator, woman-hater and Jew-hater in his time! I still respect this decision very much today. I, however, am more like our father with his faith, who had long since lost his faith. I am a convinced atheist! However, houses dedicated to God still hold a great fascination for me, a phenomenon that I cannot explain. And I also have a favorite church hymn - just like our mother had: "So take my hands and lead me"... Churches, cathedrals, synagogues, even mosques are all equally acceptable to me. I still respect all forms of religion. To each his own! It occurs to me that, in my opinion, the most beautiful Protestant church next to the Nikolaikirche is the one in WTM/Ardorf. It is very simple in terms of furnishings, but with impressive brass chandeliers on the ceiling; which also have countless real candles on them: "the light of life" reflects like small, blazing torches. Very effective and impressive. However, I also really appreciate the work of Pope Francis, who is anything but conservative in his post with flying colors. For example, he recently banned the entire mafia from Italy's churches. In concrete terms, this means: that in these communities such "murderer units" (well known in detail there) are no longer married, buried, etc. via the churches whose children are not baptized. A bitter blow for the strictly religious Italians! We say, keep it up! And remember: if you want to get married in the classic church - all in white - or your children - and even want to be buried with the pastor, you have to be baptized! With this in mind: Go inside yourself and go to church again and throw a euro into the "bell bag." There is absolutely no harm in it. By the way: You are the light of the world - make something of it! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏼
