First impressions were very good, the room looked lovely, though it wasn't quite ready for us at (3:15pm) but it was spotless and modern and the decor was very tasteful. However the power in the room went out twice and we suspected a faulty card reader. Upon leaving and returning to the room the card didn't work and I went to reception who stated that my phone may have wiped it, which is a nonsense excuse but she replaced the cars and reset the room. This also failed and continued to fail over the two days, we were unbelievably asked to locate a cleaner to open the room for us whenever we were locked out, I had to go to reception numerous times to be able to have someone open our room. We went to the Wheat bar which had great staff and good food which was nice and I do recommend. It was a rainy night and the noise in the room from outside was so loud that we were constantly woken up, I think the windows are the originals and they do not soundproof the room at all, so if you want to stay ask for a room at the rear. When we did get to sleep the music from the breakfast area was loud enough to be heard in the room early in the morning. So, after a pretty terrible nights sleep, (though the beds were very comfortable) we went to breakfast at around 9am... Food that was obviously in warmers for hours dried out scrambled eggs, rock hard bacon, the sausages were fresh, the tea and coffee was lukewarm at best and the staff were annoyed to be asked for anything. In fact the one thing my wife asked for never arrived, though a server did arrive with a vegan breakfast and when we said we didn't ask for it, (neither of us are vegan) he stated " well a woman who looked just like you did! Breakfast could have saved this review but it made it worse, we'd asked for a late checkout but in the end we left early. Its a pity, you can see what they are trying to achieve and the Wheat bar is there but the hotel is certainly not. 1 Star out of five for the hotel excluding the bar. Bar 4 out of 5, only because it was understaffed. Notes to Hotel: Don't blame customers for faulty cards/card readers Don't expect customers to find cleaners to access their rooms Replace food that has dried out become inedible Retrain wait staff, politeness doesn't excuse bad service, especially in a room that had maybe 10 customers.

It's not far from where we live. And we go there some sundays for dinner. There is always a great menu to choose from and the food is excellent and great value. They also have a great kids menu. It's one of the reasons we go there. Staff are always helpful, and friendly. The Talbot also has a warm relaxing atmosphere.

Came here for dinner with my husband saturday evening. Food was lovely the portions are rather big, the decor is fabulous since it's been renovated. I was reluctant to ask as it was very busy for cocktails not on the menu however the young woman behind the bar was polite and didn't hesitate to accommodate. What she made me was divine. I think her name is cat, I'll definitely be back soon!!!
