The Gate Reviews

Great Arts Venue, in a beautiful old church setting, tastefully and ingeniously renovated to provide a range of spaces. Reasonable Bar selection for a small venue. Clean toilets. If seeing a seated show id bring a small cushion as you will most probably be seated on pews. Oh and there is no parking nearby, on street only which can be a pain for larger shows, but can’t be helped as it’s an inner city venue.

Lovely little art centre in a converted church building, one of those ones with fancy gargoyles at the top if you look closely. The entrance is accessible though at the top of a slightly steep incline and there is an accessible bathroom. Cafe/bar with events nights in the evening (board game night, quiz night etc.) various classes in the day (including art, dance, creative writing) a performance area. The cafe/bar is calm, churchy, quiet and casual and has a mismatched and eclectic sort of of feel with old leather sofas and antique furniture mixed in with newer things. Board games and books available. Strangely and cutely, a microwave in an old fashioned TV cabinet for use (I love it) Staff member was very friendly. Good place to settle down with a book quietly.

Visited here for a showing of Monstrous Regiment (outstanding performance). Fantastic little theatre in a stunning converted church. The seats aren't the comfiest in the world, but reasonable considering they are old church pews.

Beautiful venue. Friendly staff. No dedicated parking and the residential streets around are all for permit holders. There are a few on street parking spaces so you might get lucky if you’re early.

Lovely arts venue in converted church, a great performing space, and they're booking some great folk artists.
