Claypath Delicatessen Reviews

Great coffee shop just out of the town centre. They do a great protugese custard tart. Coffee is good, but they could improve the foam to coffee ratio in their Cappuccino.

My favourite cafe in Durham. The sourdough bread for taking away is to die for. And everything I've ever eaten there has been wonderful - pizzas, khachapuri, sandwiches, salads, cakes...and they always have fabulous vegan options. The owners are absolutely lovely and it has such a friendly community vibe, with a delightful little garden for the summer months. Don't hesitate to make the walk up the hill from the city centre, it's totally worth it!

One of Durham's hidden gems. Only just off the beaten track. Bread that's out of this world. The best chocolate brownie this side of the A1.

Hachapuri, Georgian cheese bread, made of sourdough, is excellent. It looks a bit different to how it is traditionally made, and with a selection of additions (i.e. bacon) slides towards pizza, but I am still going to come back and order it again! A bit of a raised brow about a guy whom I could see washing the dishes -well, he didn't know how. Just dipped them once or twice under the running water and put it onto the drying rack. Hmmmm... I hope the owner reads this and makes sure hygene standards are trained. Also it is nice to see very young boys having a chance to work here, probably earning their first money. Some staff were so friendly, smiley, made sure we have everything we need. No wi-fi. Steamed single windows. Live music advertised on posters. People coming in snd out buying bread, buns, etc. Excellent atmosphere and community spirit!

Lovely place for a coffee or a bite to eat, they bake their own bread, pastries and pizza's which are just delicious. Also they have a sun trap of a garden and live music once a month, early Saturday evenings. A nice, friendly atmosphere supporting independent musicians. All in all a great indie oasis in a sea of corporates.
