Durham Cathedral Concerts 2024

Beautiful Cathedral. I'd highly recommend checking it out if you're in the Durham area. Makes me wonder how they got all those gigantic stones up the hill back in the day. No need to buy tickets, just the option to give a donation once you're inside.

Durham might not have the fanciness or opulence of other cathedrals in the UK but what it does have is an unrivaled sense of power that you can feel when you walk into the place - it is just so big! The fact that it's so old and was made with construction methods of the time is even more mind-boggling. Definitely put a visit to this Cathedral on your list of things to do when you come to Northern England. It's beautiful.

Wanted to visit for years and so glad I finally did! Got the bus to Durham and walked up to the cathedral, Walked in and it was amazing, spoke to one of the custodians who spoke to me about the stained glass, walked around a bit and was met with the desk, husband thought it was £5 entry but this is only a donation if you want, it's free otherwise, we donated, walked around and it's absolutely amazing, the size, the glass and the history is beautiful. Went out the back too and saw a few rooms, didn't find the toilets (did go to in the theatre down the road and they were fantastic, I stupidly left my phone and the guy ran after me, bless him!) the cathedral is absolutely beautiful, the people will talk to you about anything if you ask them too.

Worth visiting place. Magnificent well preserved cathedral. Once Was a shoot spot for several movies ( including few parts of Harry Potter ). Also there are few interesting old graves in front of the cathedral. Entry is Free but donations is advisable ( to support maintenance), also you can get some tour on payment basement.
