Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture Reviews

A wonderful and educational night in an intimate setting. Each aria was given context that encapsulated its meaning both in music and in history. Thanks and kudos to Mssrs. Powers, Billingham and Krol An Evening at the Opera William Powers, baritone William Billingham, pianist ...and introducing in its very first performance at the Athenaeum, an 1872 Bechstein concert grand piano, donated by Dr. George Krol

Great location and really cool area. The inside is well done however power sources are scarce. I came from Dallas that morning for an Earn Your Leisure conference. I wonder who takes care of the wooden floors? They are a little worn down. It needs more than a screening since some of the stain has left the floor where feet were. Great place cool for gatherings I’m sure. Top row view better than bottom. The box office chairs get in the way of the view.

It seems that the theater needs some upgrades, ADA accessible for more prople, maintenance, paint. Some of the seats in section 11 were in bad shape. I didn't see a lot of staff, or ushers to help you find your seats. I understand there are live shows it is hard to control every and make it perfect, microphone audio we're not that great. Overall we enjoyed the show, but little disappointed.

A great vintage Chicago theater. Fabulous architectural details. The seats in the main stage are steep which gives everyone a great view. Seats are also bigger and more comfy than some of its counterparts. The staff was kind, friendly, and very helpful.

Good parking but there were several spots where there was holes in the walls. A railing on the balcony threatening to come away from the wall. Uneven stair widths and their were 2 stalls for the bathrooms for both the women's side and the men's side. Poor planning. It looks like they are trying to make it better with an elevator for improvement but as a whole not an easy feeling
