City Winery Philadelphia Reviews

Beautiful space and good sound for music. Just very cramped at tables meant for two are seated by fours. Saw G. Love and Special Sauce. He was delightful and the band was terrific. He really can play guitar. I was smiling through the entire show. I would go again. I had a great seat with a huge guy sitting right in front of me. Sad, as he never moved. But, I was able to move and see around this house of a person. My pics aren’t great because his head was in most of them. Park at the self park Fashion district parking directly across the street if you drive in. Super easy to find. Enjoyable night.

I want to make it clear that this review is strictly for the venue itself (the loft, can’t speak for the regular dining area) and does not reflect the entertainment we went to support. I’d started writing this review while I was at the venue, because I was that irritated, but I didn’t want to write solely based on that. My opinion hasn’t really changed though. This place joins the ranks of entertainment venues who don't give a hoot about anything but cramming as many people inside as possible. *And* in covid times?? C’mon now, yall. I was there to attend the Mothers Day brunch/comedy show, and I was so uncomfortable before the show even started! They had fully grown people canned in like sardines in groups of 4 at tables meant for 2. So people are literally spilling onto the sides, encroaching the space of complete strangers, unless you may have been a larger group. Even if I were in a larger group, that doesn’t mean I want to be mushed together like that. They had the audacity to have plates and glasses on the table, which they had to remove so that our entrees would fit. When people walked by, they kept knocking off jackets and purses that were hung on the back of chairs. Oh, and they had the nerve to mark some tables as premium. It’s such a small venue that there wasn’t really anything premium about it. I guess the view is different in certain locations, but if they’d spaced the furniture out appropriately, everyone could have a decent view. If you’re going to be greedy anyway, I would have gladly paid an extra $20-$25 for some space to make up for the business they might lose. To its credit, a small venue lends to an intimate vibe which I much prefer to larger stadiums so that’d make it worth the extra cash, but hey, who am I but someone willing to spend my money. The vibe of the venue gets 1 star, and the additional star is for the polite staff, as they all worked together to bring items out, though we only saw our server twice throughout the almost 3 hours we were there. Looking back on it I wonder if that was because he thought he’d be in the way during the performances. Not sure, but it ended up working out and stopping me from spending more money than I should have. My mother enjoyed the comedians, so that was great, but that had nothing to do with City Winery. Very unlikely I’ll be back.

Very cool venue they have a restaurant, loft, and a main stage. I attended an event in the loft it was very tight seating a two top cocktail table made into a four top. However the service was prompt and attentive never had a drink go dry. The food was very good a tapas style plate. Food was pricey but what do you expect for the city. The show was awesome and the atmosphere was cool. I would definitely attend another event here. They have parking directly across the street which is key. Went to go see T.3 was an awesome show in a very cool venue

Had a great Easter brunch here!! Unlimited buffet and got a $45 fizzy mimosa to share which was a great price for what we got!! So much food to stuff our faces and the bottle of champagne was GIGANTIC! We didn’t go for any shows or anything but did hear all the laughter and fun coming from the show area! 100% worth it to visit, such a great experience

Good venue for a variety of music and comedy. Seems something is always going on atleast one if not both stages. My first time there and saw Shemekia Copeland. Enjoyed several Downeast Hard Ciders. My takeaway is that the food comes out fast! Almost too fast! Dont get me wrong, the food was tasty. But.... Ordered the Crispy Pork Belly and Truffle Fries. Fries crisp but only warm, a decent taste of Truffle. The "crispy" belly wasn't. It was succulent and butter tender, delicious, but no crisp. The charred lettuce was chiled along with the red onions and tomato confit. Both dishes tasted great, but high points were missing. Guessing the food service is more a banquet operaration than a restaurant service. Someday I might go to restaurant upstairs and order the same dishes to see the difference.
