Independence Seaport Museum Reviews

The small museum is interesting - specifically about the early history of the navy. A gift shop, bathrooms and a water fountain are available, too. We were not able to tour the Olympia but we did tour the USS Becuna submarine - highly recommended as long as you are not mobility challenged.

Excellent fun museum with great science for all to enjoy. It not only shows and describes historic maritime things but also has a sustainable environmental interactive display. There is plenty for kids to enjoy. The highlight was being able to walk around the inside of Olympia ship built in the 1800s!! Only thing that was disappointing was the complete lack of food options.

Went with a friend. The submarine tour lasted about an hour. The tour guide, Kevin was well informed about the submarine. The ship tour is self guided. If going in December, dress warm. The heating is sub par for winter and all the restaurants were closed for winter, so make other plans to eat or bring a lunch. Wear comfortable shoes. Submarine tour is not necessarily friendly to those less mobile.

Recently, we attended my GF's company Chriatmas party. Great views from the top floor balconies. The museum has lots of informative displays as well as pieces of local and regional history. The party was catered but not sure of their name. The food was great and plenty of it. The catering and museum staff were very cordial, and seemed happy to be working there. It seems like there could be a lot of fun to be had in the area, and lots to learn about in the museum. I'd definitely visit again

The guides were very knowledgeable about the ship and submarine. The kids loved it. They were surprised to learn about sleeping & eating arrangements. You really got a feel for being in a sub... kinda creepy. Great time had, by all. The Gift shop was a hoot. I got a knot-tying game for everyone to play. It is quite the challenge.
