This hotel has a great ambiance. It is a good 4 or 5 blocks from the convention center and state capitol, but what it lacks in convenient proximity, is definitely made up for in its character. The political cartoons and quotes that were used as art were hilarious. There was always fresh lemon water in the lobby. The room I was in was extremely small but had everything I needed for my work trip. I used the work desk every day, as well as the well stocked coffee station. Also, the housekeeping staff could not have been better! They were kind and attentive and made sure to ask if I needed anything any time I left the room. Highly recommend a stay here.

The hotel is beautiful. Lots of historic charm with all the comforts you could ask for. We checked in when the computer system was down. But the staff made it easy to "check in" using old school pencil and paper. With it being downtown, we were walking distance to lots of places. We had family stay at different hotels in the area and The Citizens was above all the rest. If we are ever in the Sacramento area again, we will not stay anywhere but here.

Great room in a cool old building, felt more like home than a hotel room. Valet parking was prompt- Edgar and Annesia were fantastic, always quick to retrieve the car, friendly to talk to and provided top notch valet service. Will stay again when in Sacramento.

Here for a wedding. The price is CRAZY for what you get. There is one drawer in the room and that's it, so we're living out of a suitcase. The "fitness center" is abysmal. 3 treadmills and a yoga mat in a repurposed broom closet. No coffee in the room or other usual amenities. Walls are paper thin, so we heard everyone running around all night. Everything just feels old, but not necessarily in a charming way.
My husband I were in town for night, he planned a super nice date and my job was to find us the hotel. I took great pride in this and researched so many and settled on this one. This was, by far, the biggest let down in hotels ever. The website is so misleading! I will say, upon entering the lobby vibe is super cool … so we were jazzed when we got there! We got off the elevator and the floor design was very cool too! But then, once we entered the room it was THE WORST! One super small window, two people can’t walk at the same time in the room because it’s so small! I have gone back on their website multiple times trying to see a picture of the room they gave us. Thinking maybe I booked it wrong!? But nowhere on their website do you have an option like the room we got. I’ll attach pictures of the room we booked online vs the room we were given. When we checked out I did tell the front office lady that we were highly disappointed and that it was ridiculous we paid SOOO much money for the room we got. She did discount the room by 20% without any hesitation. I said “wow… clearly, you’ve had this complaint before” she gave me a smile as if we agreed but she couldn’t exactly say it with words. When leaving the valet service had our car ready and he handed our keys from inside. He didn’t open the hotel lobby door for us, he didn’t walk us to our car — nothing. Literally, had he JUST opened the hotel door he would have received a generous tip. It was 7am in the morning, we were the only people leaving so he wasn’t busy. We just truly couldn’t stand staying in that depressing room any longer!
