Stamford Center for the Arts Reviews

I was surprised by a friend who got tickets for the Lady A band concert, and it was at this venue. The theater is very charming!! It definitely has that small Broadway theater vibe. Our seats were about 10 rows back, which was perfect, and was relieved they didn't have the sound pumped up overly loud. The seats were comfortable, and the rows weren't too close together, so there was ample leg room. Really enjoyed this concert, and I hope to visit this venue over and over while I live in Stamford. I was impressed!

Went to the theater last night to see Jon Stewart. Show starts at 7:30. Show up at 7:15 and there's a long line of people waiting in the rain. Wish someone had the wherewithal to consider having an additional awning or start doing tickets earlier so people weren't stuck out in the bad weather. Then they proceeded to put your phone into security bags - I guess to prevent filming and what not - cool, fine, but then if you want a program for the evening you have to scan a QR code... with your phone... Facilities were clean, but by the end of the evening the ladies bathroom on the 2nd floor ran out of toilet paper and so people were flushing paper towels, not good. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Seats were not built for a broad people. I felt squished between my husband and the man next to me. Lastly, the place was a sauna. Normally a theater is nicely air conditioned. We were in the mezzanine and we're steaming like lobsters up there.

What a terrific place to hear the symphony and see it come to life on the big screen! The music was phenomenal, and the Show fantastic!!! I'm looking forward to number 3!

Went to see Jon Stewart and grabbed the two last two seats for hubby and I - they were NOT together - they are singles ACROSS the Palace theater from each other. At the ticket office, a VERY kind women met us and issued the separate paper tickets THEN SHE CAME TO THE LOBBY AND PROMISED TO TRY TO FIND US TICKETS TOGETHER! WHAT? Lenore Heller is our guardian angel's name - she escorted us to seats together - we didn't even ask. Hugs and warmth ensued. THANK YOU Lenore for incredible hospitality.

Lots of Stamford history here many locals do not know about. Mary C. Vuono built the Vuono's Palace Theatre opening on June 2, 1927 at 61 Atlantic St., with 1,580 seats, was originally a "Thomas W. Lamb" designed vaudeville house. It was restored and re-opened in 1983 for live theatre, concerts and art exhibitions. There was another theater The Strand built right next door. Mary C. Vuono's husband was in the construction business in Stamford and immigrated from southern Italy in the early 1900s through Ellis Island to Brooklyn first and then relocated to Stamford. As poor immigrants, they left Potenza, Italy because they were told "The streets were paved with gold in America." First there was vaudeville, then silent movies and of course Mary C Vuono loved the Opera! It is a miracle this venue has withstood the test of time. Stamford History Center has more information if anyone is interested. BTW, I live in San Francisco and "The Fox Theatre" was a 4,651-seat movie palace located at 1350 Market Street in SF, CA. The theater was designed by the noted theater architect, "Thomas W. Lamb" as well. It opened in 1929, the theater operated until 1963, when it was closed and demolished. Sadly it is gone. So you are lucky to have the Stamford Center for the Arts.
