Tarrytown Music Hall Reviews

The Tarrytown Music Hall is a first class and top quality performance arts venue based in Tarrytown, New York. Built and opened during the 19th Century, the Tarrytown Music Hall is considered Westchester County’s oldest theatre. The building was designed by architect, Philip Edmund and it features numerous Queen Anne style characteristics such as its pyramidal or hipped roof reflecting pyramidal massing. Throughout the 20th Century, it has hosted prominent musical icons ranging from Louis Armstrong & Miles Davis. In December of 2023, I brought and treated my wife and myself to attend the “Nutcracker Performed By The New York Theater Ballet” at the Tarrytown Music Hall and we very much enjoyed the show. Our favorite parts of the show were the “Russian Dance” the “Waltz of the Snowflakes” & “The Nutcracker Mouse King Battle.” Everyone performed brilliantly, and the theater’s acoustics certainly helped elevate the performance. The theater provides comfortable seats for its guests and great views of the stage and the performers Both my wife and I would like to thank the Tarrytown Music Hall for providing us with a great experience and definitely recommend for everyone to attend and watch a show at this wonderful music venue!!!

In the bustling Hudson River community of Tarrytown sits one of the few American theaters built before 1900. The Tarrytown Music Hall enjoys a rich in history of visiting renowned artists, dignitaries, prominent families, and hundreds of dedicated volunteers. It was built in 1885, is listed on the National Register for Historic Places, and is the oldest operating theater in Westchester County. My visit here was to see the excellent performance of Raul Malo, the lead singer of the famous band, The Mavricks. This 843-seat venue is very popular and hosts a variety of musicians playing jazz, folk, blues, and classical genres. You can see plays, musicals, operas, comedy, dance, recordings, and films too.  Architecturally, it is a grand example of Queen Anne with intricate brickwork. In 1980, the theater was purchased by The Friends of the Mozartina Musical Arts Conservatory, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, educational, and cultural organization. Their dedication and fundraising efforts have made the music hall an outstanding center for the performing arts.

Charming space and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The seating in the balcony (as has been mentioned) is very tight and I’m only 5’4” but my knees were aching by the end of the show. The cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. Dust and dirt visible from our seats as well as in the women’s (very small) bathroom.

Love the acoustics. Love the history. The old timers here talk of ghosts that the performers unknowingly channel which bring out the most epic performances some of the bands have ever given. This adds up because of the history since 1835!! And the energy that has resonated since. Unforgettable.
