UK house DJ Sam Divine rose from Defected’s Ibiza street team to fronting its radio show and earning “First Lady of Defected” status. Founder of DVINE Sounds (2015; nearly 100 releases), she recorded a Radio 1 Essential Mix for Pete Tong and raised £50,000 via D-Vita.
London disco DJ collective Horse Meat Disco (Luke Howard, Severino Panzetta, James Hillard and Jim Stanton) launched New Year’s Day 2004 at The Eagle, Vauxhall. The Sunday-night party became a global brand with residencies in Berlin, New York and Lisbon.
Third Ward-born Houston indie rapper Fat Tony (Anthony Obi) embodies DIY underground hip-hop. Active in Houston’s hip-hop scene for years, he honors his inspirations and blends inward-looking storytelling with swagger; released I Will Make a Baby in this Damn Economy.

A Hacienda resident, she garnered the DJ Mag Lifetime Achievement Award (2022), Keychange Inspiration Award (2023), and other accolades. She is also a recognized author and a regular on BBC 6 Music.
Craig Charles, born in Liverpool, England, is a multifaceted talent known as an actor, comedian, and celebrated funk and soul DJ. He gained widespread recognition for roles in Red Dwarf and Coronation Street, and as a presenter for Robot Wars. Charles's musical style encompasses funk, soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz. He hosts a popular BBC Radio 6 Music show, which received a Gold Aria award, and has released "Trunk of Funk" compilation albums.
Annie Macmanus is a broadcaster, author and DJ. Her debut Sunday Times bestselling novel Mother Mother was released in paperback to critical acclaim. She produces the podcast Changes with Annie Macmanus and runs Malta’s Lost & Found festival.
