LineUp

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a leading Maryland cultural institution, has performed at Baltimore’s Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall since 1982. Led by music director Marin Alsop, it’s known for acclaimed recordings, including Gershwin (Decca, 2010) and Bernstein (Naxos, 2017).
"Rhapsody in Blue," composed by George Gershwin in 1924, is an iconic American musical composition. Originating in New York City, it masterfully blends classical music with jazz and blues, creating a distinctly American, modernist style. Known for its memorable melodies and the famous opening clarinet glissando, it established Gershwin as an eminent composer. Commissioned by Paul Whiteman and orchestrated by Ferde Grofé, this work is celebrated for defining the Jazz Age.
